In the early 2000s, the U.S. government viewed cyberspace with optimism with the belief that access to and information from the internet would help spread democracy worldwide. However, cyberattacks from state and non-state actors, such as North Korea's attack on Sony and Iran's campaign against U.S. banks, highlights the growing threat posed by cyberwarfare. The United States must now strategically adapt its approach to cybersecurity and recognize the ever-changing and complex digital landscape
