Fw-190 pilot bails out! | World War Aviation

Most Fw 190s were the "A" series, powered by a BMW radial engine. Late in 1943, however, the more capable "D" series appeared in action against U.S. bombers, powered by the more powerful Jumo 213 inline, liquid-cooled engine. Because the larger engine lengthened its nose, a 20-inch section had to be added to the Fw 190D-9's fuselage just forward of the tail. Unboxing the Focke-wulf Fw190A-8/F-8… First flying in 1939, the Focke-wulf FW190 was an immediate threat to RAF fighters when introduced in late 1941, being faster and more manoeuvrable than the Spitfire V then in service. The A-8 version was the most numerous, heavily armed variant and entered service in 1944 in an attempt to stop Allied daylight raids. Built in 2013 by Aerostar (Romania) to original drawings and powered by a 1,900 hp Shvetsov ASh-82T radial engine, this aircraft represents one of the very few airworthy Fw 190s in the world.
