Tried out a flow coating technique — the same one lowriders use for those crazy candy finishes. After a few days of curing, I hit the clear coat with 800 grit, then laid down another round of clear. Normally this is done with a spray gun and about 10% reducer to help it level out smoothly. It worked pretty well, but I’ll probably still need to cut and buff once it fully cures. I’ll do another video showing how much of a difference a flow coat makes on jobs like this. Metal flake is very coarse compared to typical automotive paint. You’ll see boats with the coarsest flake out there but they can get away with it because they’re using gel coat and not clear like me. Gel coat is super thick, has lots of build. Flake and candy paint jobs will always take a bit more time. I’m trying to allow the mask to cure before the flow coat. I’ll throw it in the booth during another ba
