The Battle of Leyte Gulf lasted three days, and was one of the largest sea battles in modern history. From October 23-25, the U.S. Navy's goal was to take back the Philippines from Japan and secure their hold in the Pacific theatre. While there are several lessons to learn from the the Battle of Leyte Gulf, they all had one common thread - heroism in action. The Sailors' service in harm's way ultimately led to Japan's defeat.
