Today BNSF proudly celebrates 175 years of service! On February 12, 1849, the Illinois General Assembly chartered the very first BNSF predecessor: the Aurora Branch Railroad. Just a six-mile-long track between Batavia, Illinois, and West Chicago, the Aurora Branch chugged along with borrowed equipment and secondhand steel tracks. Little did the branch line, nor the developing American economy, know this small railway would grow into one of the largest North American railroads. Now the BNSF netwo
