In this early stage of classical ballet training, students begin to master the fluidity of the arms, reaching, following with the gaze, and “singing” each movement with their hands. Every port de bras begins not just from the arms, but from intention, coordination, and musical phrasing. These slow, legato transitions help develop expression, alignment, and elegance that carry through all levels of the Vaganova method.
