The 20th CSX heritage locomotive, Locomotive #1902, honors the Clinchfield Railroad, originally chartered to serve coal mines in eastern Kentucky, Western Virginia, and Eastern Tennessee. We're excited to announce that #1902 will make its inaugural run with this year's #CSXSantaTrain, a legacy dating back to the Clinchfield's "Santa Claus Special" in 1943. The CSX fleet of heritage locomotives is growing again with the introduction of CSX 1897, painted in a custom design honoring the Monon Railroad. Also known as The Hoosier Line and the Chicago, Indianapolis, and Louisville Railway, the Monon Railroad connected Chicago and Louisville, operating almost entirely in Indiana.
