Cooked sweet corn on the cob is a very welcome additon to the diet of our bats in care. With so many juveniles coming in from rescue many have never encountered corn on the cob before as it isn't a food they get in the wild. Flying-foxes are up for just about anything and they really do catch on very quickly and soon realise what a yummy treat corn is. Any flying-fox by itself through the day is in trouble. The Big #BigBrownBat Brown bat has not yet figured out how to eat worms on his own, so I'm feeding him a couple times a day (normally he'd still be in hibernation and would not need to eat, but since he is so active, he needs calories). He doesn't react much to just being handed (with tweezers) a worm, but if the heads are removed and a little of the viscera squeezed into his mouth, he eats them right up! These two female little brown bats are best friends. We find them roosting together, looking for snacks together and eating together. They take dinner very serious, and although they will happily share the dish they will not share mealworms 🤣 Volume 🆙 for little brown bat squabbles. They are certainly sweet girls (no names yet) but these two non-releasable little browns are not only best buds they are the cutest little floofs to feed. They wait at the door and fly down and wait to where the food dishes will be placed. We will try to capture it sometime.
