Hurricane Ida is a force of nature as seen here in this satellite imagery on SOS Explorer. Ida rapidly progressed from a "potential for tropical cyclone development" in the southwestern Caribbean Sea on August 23rd to a Category 1 hurricane late on the 27th over Cuba, intensifying to a Category 4 just before making landfall in Louisiana on the 29th.
