The scimitar-horned oryx was declared Extinct in the Wild in 2000 - today, it’s been upgraded to Endangered. In just over 20 years, the wild population grew from zero to over 600 individuals in Chad. This is the first time a large mammal has been successfully reintroduced from extinction in the wild at this scale.
