March 12th is National Plant A Flower Day! It’s a day to start preparing your garden for spring. For today, Howard letterpress printed an electrotype (copy of a woodcut) from the Bill Gaylord Collection. Bill was a longtime docent at the Sacramento History Museum and was a collector of letterpress cuts. He also was the person who trained Howard in the print shop 27 years ago. We have a few electrotypes similar to this one in our print shop where there is a small mortised box on top of the image.

Since we are a museum, we can’t pass this day up. March 2nd is National Old Stuff Day! While using our Washington hand press, which was made in 1852, Jared letterpress printed the oldest woodcut in our print shop exhibit at the Sacramento History Museum.
